bruins re-up petteri nokelainen

Young forward Petteri Nokelainen has apparently re-signed with the Bruins, according to Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe.

This makes me very happy. Nokelainen is a rangy kid with good hands, that, I think, will be able to use his size to gain space as his game develops. He had a commanding presence during the year, especially in the 7-playoff games against the Habs, playing with a surprising amount of grit.

His numbers weren't great for the 2007-2008 season, but I think he's got a tremendous amount of potential, and also think its a good sign that the Bruins brass recognize his assets-in-the-rough.

What are your takes on Michael Ryder? Four million a year??

Yes. What say you about Michael Ryder? And Glen Metropolit for that matter. I think Boston brought in the wrong guy and I think they let the wrong guy go. Surprise!!!

see michael ryder comment higher on this blog. i don't see 4 million as a ridiculous salary for a 30 goal scorer (not like paying 7 mil to holik for 'intangibles').

very sad to see metro go, though. consistent heart-and-soul player, who got a gig as a walk-on in training camp.

Also, don't forget that replacing a guy from Regent Park (here in Toronto) with a guy from Bonavista Nfld alters the toughness of a team. From "street tough" to... uhhh... sea tough?
